Each of these three movie previews includes a supernatural fantasy film that may seem a bit light on concept yet all seem to have some potential.  They also have a young cast and seem to be aimed at a young adult audience.

First, in theaters today is After the Dark, starring James D’Arcy, who played a lieutenant in Peter Weir’s brilliant Jack Aubrey film, Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World, and was featured in the Hitchcock biopic as Anthony Perkins.  Harry Potter fans will be happy to see Bonnie Wright, Harry’s girlfriend Ginny Weasley, in her first post-Hogwarts lead role, as well as a slew of other actors in their 20s playing teen roles.

The blurb: Faced with an impending nuclear apocalypse, a group of twenty college students must determine which ten of them would take shelter underground and reboot the human race. The decision quickly becomes deadly as each in the group turns against each other in a desperate fight for survival.

After the Dark is in theaters beginning today.

Star Trek’s new Chekov, Anton Yelchin stars in the next film previewed today, the oddly named movie Odd Thomas, based on the Dean Koontz novel.  It also features Willem Dafoe in what looks to be an interesting role.  Always good, Dafoe has been in a variety of genre films, from John Carter to the Spider-man trilogy to Platoon and Clear and Present Danger, and even had voice work in The Fantastic Mr. Fox.

The blurb: In a California desert town, a short-order cook with clairvoyant abilities encounters a mysterious man with a link to dark, threatening forces.

Odd Thomas doesn’t have a published U.S. release date yet.

Earlier at borg.com we previewed Welcome to Yesterday, but we figured it fits into this batch of films nicely.  It stars a bunch of young actors, so there’s nobody mass audiences will likely go to this one for unless you’re following the soaps or teen series these young actors have starred in.  But the time travel hook in the trailer really makes this film look like one we’d at least watch down the road on cable TV.

The blurb: A group of teens embark on an adventure when they discover secret plans for building a time machine.
