This week Archie Comics and Dark Horse Comics announced a new mini-series coming in 2015, an unlikely monster mash, Archie Meets Predator. We’re surprised it took them so long.
Predator on film has faced off against Arnold Schwarzenegger and Ridley Scott’s Aliens. In the comics, the list goes on and on, from Predator vs Judge Dredd vs Aliens
Archie has had a similar spree of unlikely mash-ups, like Archie Meets KISS, The Punisher Meets Archie
Archie Meets Predator is not taking the dark path you’d think you’d get from Dark Horse Comics or even from Archie Comics based on their success with Afterlife With Archie or forthcoming Sabrina series. Archie Meets Predator seems to be lighter fare based on the press release this week:
Archie and friends hit Costa Rica for spring break, where party and beach games soon get replaced by the most dangerous game! What mysterious attraction does the gang hold for the trophy-collecting Predator, and will the kids even realize they’re in danger before it claims them all?
Just like we learned that Jedis don’t seek revenge, hence no Revenge of the Jedi, so it must be true that Archie never takes on these mash-up, tie-in characters. So we see Archie Meets Predator instead of the more intriguing Predator vs. Archie. A great mash-up should be true to both contributing worlds. Archie is the easy-going straight arrow teenager. That’s what defines him. Predator hunts and collects skulls. So, if this is to be a good mash-up, we better see some cover art soon showing Predator holding the melon of either Archie or Jughead. Just sayin’. It’s not like we need to worry about killing off these characters, since Archie was already killed off in one series earlier this year.
