There is always room for another Kurt Russell action figure

Next to Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone, there is probably no other actor in the action genre who has had more action figures with his likeness.  Snake Plissken himself, Kurt Russell.  Once upon a time movies like Escape from New York and Big Trouble in Little China came and went with no toys or collectibles, mainly thanks to a clash between R ratings and the unwillingness of toy companies to release toys for such films.  But even those classics now provide fans of Kurt Russell with a desktop warrior of many of his films to guide their day.  Today we’re running down a brief history of Kurt Russell in action figures and collectible toys.

The first image we had of Russell in Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2, were images of collectible figures for his character Ego.  You can get his Marvel Legends version of the figure here:

If Dorbz are your thing you can also find him in that format here, and as a Funko Pop! figure here.  There is also a MiniMates version, but no Hot Toys or Sideshow versions of Ego available–yet.

Although we’ve found no Bone Tomahawk or Tombstone figures for Russell, his Western The Hateful Eight resulted in a 1:6 scale figure of Russell’s John Ruth, available here, an eight-inch version here, and a Funko Pop! here.

But how about the Kurt Russell classic characters?

A 1:6 scale figure of R.J. Macready, Russell’s character in John Carpenter’s The Thing was announced and scrapped in 2016.  But a 7-inch version is expected around Halloween this year from PCS Toys.  Here is the prototype sculpt of Russell:

McFarlane Toys once issued a figure of Macready, which was retired years ago.  McFarlane also released a great pose of Russell as Snake Plissken from Escape from L.A. (shown below), out of production, but available from time to time at Amazon here.

NECA released a solid sculpt of Russell in Escape from New York, available here:

What would normally be the best of any character, Sideshow Toy’s design of Plissken, although a cool figure, doesn’t look all that much like Russell:

The Sideshow figure comes with plenty of extras, and although it is a retired figure, it can often be found on Amazon here.

The slack of many classic films that never released figures has been taken up by Funko’s ReAction line, which resulted in this Kenner-style figure of Plissken from Escape from New York, available here:

And this version, available here:

Not known for their likenesses as much as the nostalgia of the packaging and style, Funko ReAction also released Russell as Jack Burton from Big Trouble in Little China, available here:

And as a Funko Pop! figure, available here.  Here is an N2 Toys version, that does not seem to be available anywhere anymore:

And a Sideshow release, announced last year, due out in 2018:

What else would you expect to see of action figures from Kurt Russell movies?  In what is surprisingly the best likeness of Russell of any figures created so far, NECA produced his stuntman character from Grindhouse:

It’s long out of production, but available in a 7-inch version from time to time here at Amazon.

Finally, going way back you can still find an inexpensive figure of Russell as Colonel O’Neil from Stargate, still available at Amazon here:

Do you have any action figures of Kurt Russell in your collection we missed?  Let us know in the comments.

  1. I have the movie action figures of Kurt Russel and I love the one from Grindhouse best. It really looks like him!

  2. I’d love to see an action figure of Kurt as Sgt Todd from the film Soldier, with a whole assortment of weapons to go along with him.
