We just want to take a break today to shout out a Happy 16th Birthday to our amazing support crew of rov(er)ing reporters, our four-legged support team of Jade and Jasmine.

You’ve probably seen them pop up from time to time–Jasmine cosplaying as Supergirl or Jade at RenFest as a Viking–or everything in between.  But if you haven’t, know they have been nearby tail-wagging away as we feverishly scan the entertainment sphere coming up with your next daily entertainment fix.

We couldn’t be prouder of our furry crew with 224 dog years between them.

As always, thanks for your support, and thanks for reading!

WKRP Nessman reporting Thanksgiving stunt

Pull the turkey TV dinner out of the oven. Throw some butter on those peas. It’s time again for your annual tryptophan coma. And another annual tradition.

Here at borg.com we like our Thanksgiving with turkeys. Not just one turkey. Several turkeys. Flying overhead even. Yes, it is time again for your annual viewing of one of the two best Thanksgiving episodes of TV ever. Finish this phrase: “As God is my witness, I thought…” You don’t know how it ends? Then watch and enjoy our traditional viewing of the greatest Thanksgiving episode of TV ever:

(YouTube versions change a lot, so feel free to look around for a better version, unless it’s already carried by one of your streaming providers)

And in between your seconds and thirds on mashed potatoes, corn casserole, bean casserole, pea casserole–and don’t forget the gravy–then check out other Thanksgiving blasts from the past here. And don’t forget the cranberries.

Happy Thanksgiving!

I kicked off borg.com as a way to catch up on entertainment news, books and movies back on June 10, 2011.  I’ve posted what’s new and interesting each day to provide “your daily science fiction, fantasy, and entertainment fix” every day for three years now and borg.com will continue to forge ahead into the future, well beyond our 1,000,000th view by readers last month.

I want to say thanks to you for reading.  It’s a lot of fun (and hard work) keeping up on all the great genre entertainment out there, be it on TV, in theaters, in books, or comics.  I also want to thank all the comic book publishers out there that provide us with previews and review copies, as well as book publishers and TV and movie studios and collectible companies that allow us to give you the first look at what’s coming next.  Our first look back in June 2011?  A list of all 52 of the new titles for that then-unheard of thing called DC Comics’s New 52.  We figure that if we like what we see, so might you.

1000000 hits

Just a quick thanks to YOU, regular and new readers, for coming back and making the borg.com odometer tip over the 1 million benchmark today!

Every day since June 10, 2011, this site has been about what I want to read and watch and talk about, and I’ve hoped others would jump on board as I went along.  Thanks for coming on over.

Raquel Welch One Million Years BC

Special thanks to Elizabeth, Art, Jason, J.A.B., the Elite Comics flight crew, my 4-legged support staff, and my other pals for your friendship and prompting new ideas throughout the year.

And how about a shout-out to Joss Whedon.  He and the production crew of the new online release In Your Eyes secretly mailed out gifts (some substantial) worldwide to the first people who paid $5 to download his new film.  Press coverage of Whedon this weekend pointed hundreds of viewers to my 2012 San Diego Comic-Con article about Whedon (one of my favorite posts to write).  And that’s what pushed us over the 1 million mark today.  Very cool.

Onward and upward!

Independents Day 2013

So ya gotta ask yourself this question:  This Saturday, does your local comic book store have an Independents Day?  Well?  Does it?

This Saturday, July 27, 2013, Elite Comics, the Kansas City metro’s best comic book store, is hosting the first annual Independents Day.  Already comic book stores across the country are planning to follow suit next year.  Why?  Because it’s about focusing on local creators.  It’s about taking a look away from the big name creators and seeing what else exciting is out there from up and coming writers and artists.

Meet Creators

Oh, yeah, it’s also about Elite Comics expanding into the space of two other businesses to unload a warehouse sale of new and old comics, toys, busts, wall art, and everything in between.  And in another room JP will be leading up some board and card games.  And look for about 30 artists to be on hand with their art, much for sale.

And one more thing.

Some of the most fun we’ve had is meeting new people as we keep up on the coolest happenings in the genre realm, some at conventions, some are friends we are grateful to chat with each week of the year.  And lucky for us, borg.com has allowed us to meet some of our own favorite celebrities over the past two years, sci-fi stars like Mark Hamill, Joss Whedon, Jonathan Frakes, Brent Spiner, Anthony Stewart Head, Scott Bakula, Adam Baldwin, Lindsay Wagner, Saul Rubinek, Zachary Levi, Eddie McClintock, Wil Wheaton, and Mark Sheppard.  Sci-fi and fantasy writers like Peter S. Beagle, Connie Willis, James Blaylock, and Sharon Shinn.  And comic book creators like Frank Cho, Jim Lee, Sergio Aragones, Neal Adams, and Howard Chaykin, and scores of other great comics creators like Mike Mayhew, Mike Norton, Michael Golden and Mikel Janin (and several not named Mike).

Wil Wheaton standing room only crowd at Planet Comicon 2013

The biggest and best pop culture and comic book convention in Kansas City’s history was held this weekend as Planet Comicon 2013 filled the Bartle Hall at the Kansas City Convention Center with thousands and maybe even tens of thousands of fans of everything from Doctor Who to superheroes, Star Trek and Star Wars, to video games and anime.  It’s first day downtown was a big success with lots of happy fans talking with their favorite comic book and fantasy writers and artists and TV and movie actors.

Here’s a photo gallery of what we saw from Elizabeth C. Bunce’s Booth on Artist’s Row and walking around today.
