Ricky Gervais Alley Cats series stars the latest irreverent orange tabby cat

While we’ve seen several movies about the great American icon Garfield the cat based on the Jim Davis comic strip. A new series from comedian Ricky Gervais introduces the latest irreverent cat, a mouthy fellow who looks even more like the star of the 2024 anime series Ghost Cat Anzu.  That movie featured the ultimate anthropomorphic, middle-aged orange tabby with attitude.  Alley Cats, a six-episode animated series, makes its way to Netflix in late summer.  It’s a comedy, an adult comedy with raunchy humor stylings similar to that of Seth MacFarlane’s Ted, with Gervais voicing lead alley cat Gus.  But the British voice cast may also remind viewers of Nick Park’s Creature Comforts.  One of the funniest series ever, the show featured the voices of English men and women on the streets of England, recorded saying everyday things, brought to life with a variety of animated animals.

Gervais serves as creator, director, writer, and lead voice actor.  The series also includes the voices of Andrew Brooke, Natalie Cassidy, Diane Morgan, Jo Hartley, Tom Basdan, David Earl, and Tony Way.

Look for the first season of Alley Cats on Netflix in the U.S. beginning August 7, 2026.
