You know how the the third act in so many trilogies seems to leave you feeling unfulfilled? The middle act–the second season–of Prime Video’s mega-series The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power was hard to beat, putting the series on par with Peter Jackson’s movies. The playing pieces were introduced, arranged, and set up in the first season, but like The Empire Strikes Back was to Star Wars, Season 2 provided the action, intrigue, passion, and conflict–all the things that create the drama of an epic second act. Welsh actor Morfydd Clark led the way as Galadriel. But it was Sam Hazeldine’s layered, unpredictable antagonist Adar that elevated the show to another realm. Unfortunately, the character didn’t make it to season 3.
What’s left–filling in the well-known facts that get us to Jackson’s movies–are known quantities. Springing ahead 5 years after Season 2, Charlie Vickers’ Annatar aka Sauron forges the One Ring. And the men around him turn from humans to Ringwraiths, or Nazgûl. So the weight of Season 3 rests on the writers room coming up with something unexpected and interesting to keep viewers coming back each week for this billion dollar production. In total five seasons are intended for the big Amazon Studios project, so what will be left for the next two seasons? Actually there is plenty more lore from J.R.R. Tolkien works to flesh out the story.

Season 3 of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power arrives November 11, 2026 with the first four episodes, with the next two November 18 and the final two Novmeber 25, only on Amazon’s Prime Video streaming platform.
