
Planet of the Apes, Mad Max, and The Crow. Those are three very different stories, yet they all speak of a bleak fantasy future with a few doses of sci-fi. Strange apocalyptic sci-fi futurism returns to the movies this summer with three sequels, all reboot visions of what was brought to the big screen, one from the 1960s, one from the 1970s, and the other from the 1990s.
Sci-fi fans know the story of Planet of the Apes already, they just get to see it now with cutting edge visual effects in Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes. The Crow is the latest effort to tap into Brandon Lee’s legend, and it doesn’t look like it will be able to do it, although its over-the-top, excessive violence appears consistent with the original. And Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga will be a showcase of Anya Taylor-Joy and an over-make-uped edition of Chris Hemsworth.
