Following a mysterious scream through the space-time vortex (revealed in a Free Comic Book Day preview), the 15th Doctor and Ruby arrive in England 1739, where they discover a Cyberman’s gauntlet, which leads them to a venue we all have witnessed: a closed shopping mall. Only this is in the distant future, and it’s the last mall on Earth. Is it a trap? The first story of the next Doctor pulls from a blend of tropes found in sci-fi movies–the end of Earth from Io to the giant mall in Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets, to the lost girl in Aliens.
Doctor Who fans who love the Cybermen will want to dig into the first issue of the new comic book series Doctor Who: The Fifteenth Doctor, coming next week to comic shops everywhere. Check out a preview of the first issue below.
Colorist Valentina Bianconi joins artist Kelsey Ramsay and writer Dan Watters in the next iteration of Who stories from Titan Comics. Watters smartly borrows from Ncuti Gatwa and Millie Gibson’s first season by way of all sorts of great costumes for the duo. He also gets Gatwa and Gibson’s voices right. Dialogue is critical to getting adaptations right and this issue is a great start.
And that trademark Fourth Doctor’s scarf makes an appearance. Isn’t it time to bring that back for the Doctor in the TV show?
Here are some of the more than a dozen cover options, as well as a preview for the second issue:
Doctor Who: The Fifteenth Doctor is coming June 26, 2024. Put this series on your pull list at Elite Comics or your local comic shop now.
