Review by C.J. Bunce
A cool story by Sophie Campbell and great artwork by Campbell and Matt Frank make the new series Mothra: Queen of the Monsters required reading for any fan of Godzilla and his kaiju pals. The first issue arrives in comic shops this coming comic book Wednesday and we have a preview of it for you below courtesy of IDW Publishing. Following up on its current title, Godzilla vs. America, this story follows sisters Mira and Emi, separated in a battle that destroyed much of the world, all because Mothra could not protect us all from the menacing Antra. But what if there’s more than the natural world–what if there’s a supernatural world of magic that ties everything together, that can be tapped to bring back the world as it was? But how far back must they go to find out?
The first chapter is a great start to the series, filled with great imagery and new fantasy lore for the franchise. Take a look inside Issue #1:
Here is a first look at concept artwork, variant covers, and future covers for the rest of the series:
And keep an eye out for the forthcoming Godzilla vs Los Angeles, plus two other city-specific issues, and Godzilla Heist is another IDW tie-in. All of this follows a resurgence in interest after the popularity of the long-standing pop culture hit from Japan via the recent movie Godzilla Minus One (reviewed here).
Add Mothra: Queen of the Monsters to your comic shop pull list at Elite Comics or your local comic shop beginning March 5, 2025.
