Big G Monsters and Jim Henson Company get in on a big sneakers collab

Last year saw three of the mascots of General Mills’ “Big G” Monsters Cereals–Count Chocula, BooBerry, and borg Hall of Famer FrankenBerry–taking the form of Muppets in an unexpected but meant-to-be collab with The Jim Henson Creature Shop for a flocked cereal box promotion through Wal-Mart stores.  As the three cereals make their annual pilgramage back to your grocery store, the next collab sees General Mills and The Jim Henson Company bringing in shoe company Bull Airs–whose style basically features a reverse Nike swoosh-inspired stripe–and the result is something truly loud, fun–and pricey.  You might not be willing to lay down $250 for some crazy shoes, but these three pairs, pulling together all the design elements of each cereal box including the Muppets fuzzy touch, are quite the works of pop art.  It’s the kind of project that could have made it into the Collab book (reviewed here) a few years ago.

Fortunately for Big G Monster diehards, Bull Airs is also offering jackets, hats, and shirts.   Henson fans can also find shoes on the website for Jim Henson company collabs including Sesame Street, Fraggle Rock, The Dark Crystal, and Labyrinth.  You’re going to want to take a closer look at the shoes for the buckled sneaker tribute to Skeksis Chamberlain and the crystal-corrupted Jen shoe from The Dark Crystal line.

First, the Monster cereal shoes:

But then see how great they incorporated fuzzy components into the Sesame Street shoes for Super Grover, Snuffleupagus, and Oscar the Grouch:

And how about The Dark Crystal?

They seem to have missed an opportunity by not making a Fizzgig tribute shoe.

Then there’s Labyrinth…

And Fraggle Rock:

The Monster Cereals debuted in 1971 and have returned to stores periodically over the past 54 years for Halloween.  Find more details about the shoes and other Henson tie-ins at the Bull Airs website.  Follow The Jim Henson Company, General Mills, and Bull Airs on social media for updates on these and other new new projects.
