Nearly an hour and a half of a movie with no dialogue may not sound like a good idea at first. Then you see how realistic Latvian writer-director Gints Zilbalodis designed a cat and dog and many more creatures for his new animated feature, Flow. The visuals aren’t sharp and perfect, but somehow he’s attained a firm grasp on how animals move and act. This doesn’t look like anything we’ve seen before, using real voices for all the animals (except the capybara was swapped for a baby camel), Janus Films looks like it has a winner on its hands. It’s the official submission of Latvia for the Best International Feature Film category at the next Academy Awards in 2025. Zilbalodis also composed the music, along with Rihards Zalupe.

Just marvel at those images:

A limited U.S. release for Flow is slated for Thanksgiving, with a wider release in December 2024.
