We figured a sequel to the 2022 Frankenstein/sci-fi/horror flick M3GAN (reviewed here) was a must, and it’s coming our way this summer. M3GAN 2.0 brings back Allison Williams (Get Out) as Gemma, a “smart toy” designer (and whiz artificial intelligence/robotics programmer) who had some problems with one creation in particular. That was M3GAN, the “Model 3 Generative Android” played by Amie Donald providing the physical performance of M3GAN’s body, while voiced by Jenna Davis (with animatronic puppets, CGI, and other visual effects added by Weta Workshop in New Zealand), a lifelike, child-sized robot doll that pairs with a single primary user (Black Widow’s Violet McGraw) and adapts to become a child’s best friend, surrogate parent, and fierce protector. In the Blumhouse sequel Ahsoka’s Ivanna Sakhno plays a new robot getting a little too involved in the world and being quite bad. Can these two play nice together?

Check out this trailer for M3GAN 2.0:
For fans of everything from Annabelle and The Boy to Bad Seed to Big, from D.A.R.Y.L. to The Six Million Dollar Man’s Fembots, to The Stepford Wives and Alita: Battle Angel, Robots Behaving Badly, possessed toys, and not-so-little girls dissatisfied with their lot in life, catch up now on the original and get ready for M3GAN 2.0. From writers Akela Cooper (Grimm, Luke Cage, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, Tron: Uprising) and James Wan (Archive 81, I Know What You Did Last Summer, Swamp Thing, Annabelle), and director Gerard Johnstone, this is the latest cautionary tale that will make you think twice about asking Siri and Alexa for help.
M3GAN 2.0 comes to theaters June 27, 2025.
