It may sound like only a marketing gimmick until you see how well they designed borg Hall of Famer Frankenberry. The Frankenstein-inspired cereal mascot is part of one of two new initiatives showing the potential of The Jim Henson Company and a peek at what it can still do after selling off The Muppets to Disney. In time for Halloween, three of the mascots of General Mills’ “Big G” Monsters Cereals–Count Chocula, BooBerry, and FrankenBerry, will take the form of Muppets created by the Jim Henson Creature Shop for a flocked cereal box promotion through Wal-Mart stores. Do you think Count Chocula will sound like The Count?

And TV viewers will soon see the first crossover of The Muppets and Star Trek, as its Strange New Worlds goes where it hasn’t gone before, with its characters re-envisioned as Muppets created by the Jim Henson Creature Shop.

Fuzzy editions of the cereal boxes arrive in Wal-Mart stores on October 7, 2025, selling for a hefty $7.70 a box. According to General Mills the products are targeted at cereal collectors, Halloween enthusiasts, and Jim Henson fans. Non-fuzzy versions have begun appearing in stores already.

The Monster Cereals debuted in 1971 and have returned to stores periodically over the past 54 years for Halloween. The Jim Henson Company will be releasing videos on social media featuring the three Muppet cereal mascots and selling other promotional tie-ins at its website. Here’s the first:
A future episode of Strange New Worlds, expected as part of Season 4 sometime in 2026, will feature even more characters–the crew of the Enterprise under Captain Christopher Pike–in Muppet form. The episode follows other experimental episodes like its musical episode and its crossover with the animated series Lower Decks, which unveiled its key cast as animated characters in a final scene. So far the series has had one standout episode this season, “Wedding Bell Blues,” which saw the return of the man we always figured for a Q, Trelane from the original series, brilliantly realized by Rhys Darby. But Pigs in Space fans shouldn’t get their hopes up for a Star Trek crossover–the pigs all live at Disneyland now. The big question? Will any of the actors get to appear onscreen with the Muppets, which would catch them up with the classic February 1980 episode of The Muppet Show featuring Mark Hamill, Peter Mayhew, and Anthony Daniels? Was that really 45 years ago?
