We’ve seen Star Trek’s Starfleet Academy in different forms for years. That includes a young Jean-Luc Picard in a Q-induced alternate timeline in Star Trek: The Next Generation. It includes Wesley Crusher and many others interacting with the infamous Boothby, the groundskeeper/mentor played by sci-fi legend Ray Walston. We’ve seen Admiral Janeway discuss her travels with students there in the distant future in Star Trek: Voyager. In the J.J. Abrams movies we see Cadet Kirk go head-to-head with Spock as teacher at Starfleet. Playmates Toys had a line of Picard era action figures in the 1990s. And you may have read the comics from IDW Publishing.

It’s been discussed as a movie option going back to the original series and the nixed Phase II project, and now it’s finally coming your way as a TV series. Holly Hunter stars as the chancellor of the future training center for cadets, and Paul Giamatti will be one of the first antagonists the show will encounter.

And yes, that’s Robert Picardo and Tig Notaro making appearances, plus lots of references to characters much like Michael Okuda once included on his Okudagrams and door signs on various series. Straight from New York Comic Con 2025, check out this first full trailer for Starfleet Academy:
And in case you missed it, the teaser from San Diego Comic-Con 2025:
The series stars Sandro Rosta, Karim Diané, Kerrice Brooks, George Hawkins, Bella Shepard, and Zoë Steiner.
The first episode of Starfleet Academy arrives January 15, 2026, on Paramount+.
