Happy Halloween!
Looking for something unique for a Halloween party? Check out the digital or print edition of The NecroMunchicon: A Necronomnomnom Cookbook — Unspeakable Snacks and Terrifying Treats from the Lore of H.P. Lovecraft, available now here at Amazon. Written by The Carols of Cthulhu and The Necronomnomnom cookbook creator Mike Slater, this cookbook is a ghoulish and fun visual feast of food made with Halloween in mind. Featuring 52 recipes for food and drinks divided by bitter, salty, savory, sour, and sweet, it’s also more than a book of clever treats. Slater packs the recipes with Lovecraftian introductions to place the scene for each of these marvelous works of culinary art.

As in his irreverent songbook The Carols of Cthulhu, Slater’s writing is humorous, and his recipe names are great fun, like a Halloween staple in the neighborhood I grew up trick-or-treating in: Necronomicorn, or popcorn balls. Slater’s is your basic popcorn ball recipe, decorated with candy eyeballs. Other clever ideas are Lemonic Pozestion, a lemon and “djinn’ger” root appetizer, A-Tacolypse (hotdog tacos) for a main course, and for dessert, There Cannoli Be One or Tri-Lobe Bites, a mozzarella popper with pomegranate.

Maybe Insani-Tea Biscuits are more your thing (chocolate-cherry scones) or Joe Sargent’s Poppers Lonely Heartichoke Club Sandwich, a nice vegetarian selection featuring artichoke and jalopenos (they hope that you will enjoy the chow). Kudos to Slater for coming up with that last one. Joe Sargent is a character in Lovecraft’s The Shadow Over Innsmouth.

Tucked into each recipe is a horror twist even in the ingredients–Halloween eggs, err, Easter eggs abound, so keep your eyes peeled (not literally) as you read along. Slater’s connective tissue (gross, sorry) between each recipe is full of well-done, savvy riffs on Lovecraft characters and stories.
Try out this cookbook… if you dare. The NecroMunchicon: A Necronomnomnom Cookbook based on the lore of H.P. Lovecraft, available now here at Amazon in a full-color hardcover and digital edition so you can get going on the recipes for tonight or this weekend.
