You might be surprised to learn that officially licensed tributes to Doctor Who in coloring book form have been part of the franchise since the beginning. That’s probably because of that long break over the turn of the century before the heyday of “adult” coloring books arrived. Although fans will be disappointed no Doctor Who Christmas Special is coming this year, just in time for holiday gift-giving Ten Speed Press has published an all-new, up-to-date overview of the franchise with its new Doctor Who: The Official Coloring Book, now available here at Amazon.

When you think of the Doctor Who franchise, what iconic images come to mind? The pantheon of Doctors? Your favorite companions? The TARDIS? Daleks? Cyberman? You’ll find all those and more in 45 illustrations by TV series storyboard artist Mike Collins. If you haven’t found the right (oversized) stocking stuffers for your favorite Whovian, your wait is over.

The most fun might just be testing your own Doctor Who knowledge. The book dashes across time and space with images from the first Doctor to the current state of the series–with the regeneration between Doctors that sets fans up for what comes next year.

You’ll find The Silence. You’ll find a particularly good, almost superhero comic style page in the style of Rich Buckler featuring the Cybermen. One page features one iteration of the inside of the TARDIS and another shows an iteration of the outside.

Keep an eye out for a celebration of the sonic screwdrivers. And for some added fun see how many members of the borg Hall of Fame you can find.

The adult coloring book business is gaining steam with publishers taking extra efforts to see that the artwork inside meets the standard of the franchise. With a tried and true artist from the franchise, fans can look forward to some great images. Hey, there’s even one with the iconic scarf to color.
Doctor Who: The Official Coloring Book has pulled together artwork that resembles the actors and key scenes from the series, but also does so in a visually interesting manner and conforms to the whole point of these books: to give fans a chance to color their favorite scenes (in or outside the lines).

The book has plenty for Doctor Who fans–key characters and images, aliens, environments and props, all in nicely framed illustrations and key action scenes. It’s a fun, nostalgic romp for sci-fi fans of all ages. For your favorite Whovian, order Doctor Who: The Official Coloring Book now here from Amazon, or from your local comic book store.
