The War Between the Land and the Sea — A Doctor Who spin-off series

We may not be getting a Christmas Special this year, but Doctor Who fans will see a new five-episode spin-off series, with Brits seeing the series this month and audiences outside of the UK able to watch it the beginning of 2026.  The War Between the Land and the Sea was created by fan favorite Who-verse showrunner Russell T. Davies.  Directed by former Doctor Who director Dylan Williams, the series stars Russell Tovey, who is not reprising a version of the character he played during the David Tennant era of Doctor Who, plus Gug Mbatha-Raw as the leader of the underwater aliens the Sea Devils, first introduced in the franchise in the Jon Pertwee era.

From the trailer the series looks to have the vibe of Torchwood, which makes sense, since the show focuses on UNIT.  That means you can look forwrd to the return of Torchwood’s Colin McFarlane as General Pierce, plus Jemma Redgrave back as UNIT CinC Kate Lethbridge-Stewart and Ruth Madeley as science advisor Shirley Bingham.

British viewers can catch the series beginning this week and running throughout the month on BBC One.  No fixed date has been announced yet for other locations.
