A Private Life — Jodie Foster’s new French film looks promising

If you’re not already inclined to try French cinema, you might after seeing the trailer for Academy Award winning actor Jodie Foster’s next project.  Director Rebecca Zlotowski’s A Private Life is new territory for Foster fans, being a French production.  But who can pass up a new Foster project, especially when you see it’s a “black comedy mystery thriller” and it has a trailer like this?  Foster makes a great cagey sleuth, non?

Check out this trailer for A Private Life:

Foster plays a noted psychiatrist who believes a client she treated for years was murdered.  Is that a Pink Panther vibe?  And is it because it’s in French or because of that evocative music, courtesy of Rob Coudert?  The movie co-stars Daniel Auteuil, Mathieu Amalric, Luana Bajrami, Virginie Efira, and Vincent Lacoste.

And hey, can we have a Renaissance of the card catalog?

Look for A Private Life in theaters January 16, 2026.
