Rev up the Corolla.
It seems like forever since we last talked about the Fast & Furious franchise, and yet Fast X was only three years ago. One of the best entries of the franchise was Tokyo Drift, a tangent look at the racing culture of drifting set in Japan. The movie co-starred Sung Kang, whose character Han would go on to be featured in five more Fast & Furious movies. The actor is taking on more duties than acting in his next auto racing movie, Drifter, which he wrote, directed, and stars in. It’s not a Fast & Furious spin-off or sequel, but an indie film that allows Kang to share his love for the auto fans and car culture he picked up over the past 20 years. He plays Tree, a loner with a tragic past who gets an opportunity to compete in a pro drift race. The story is billed as Rocky for street racing.

If you haven’t watched the Fast & Furious movies, you may know the actor from his appearances on the reboots of Magnum, PI, Hawaii Five-O, and Knight Rider, or guest appearances on Obi-Wan Kenobi, Power, Whiskey Cavalier, CSI, Without a Trace, Cold Case, even Spin City. With a modified 1986 Toyota Corolla AE86 named Lola, check out this first teaser for Drifter:
Sung Kang is expected to appear in 2028 in the eleventh and final Fast & Furious movie, Fast Forever.
Drifter does not yet have a release date. Find out more and pick up some swag for the film at the movie’s website here.
