Secret Service — Gemma Arterton stars in new espionage series

It’s only been two years since we last saw Gemma Arterton on the small screen.  That was in the heist thriller series Culprits, reviewed here at borg.  The “Bond girl”-turned-action star featured in The King’s Man, Quantum of Solace, Prince of Persia, Clash of the Titans, Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters, has dazzled in several diverse roles, the best of which may be as co-star with Ralph Fiennes in The King’s Man.  Her next series is an adaptation of a political espionage novel by Tom Bradby.  Arterton plays Kate Henderson, a wife and mother who keeps a low profile, but who is really a senior MI6 officer who leads the Russian desk at the British secret intelligence service.  A murder and uncovered evidence that a high ranking UK official is a Russian asset set the stage for five episodes of action and intrigue.  The series co-stars Rafe Spall and Alex Kingston and is directed by James Marsh.

Here’s the trailer for ITV’s new series, Secret Service:

Secret Service doesn’t have a launch date or a U.S. network yet, but is expected in the next few months.
