Unabomber — Crime thriller starring Russell Crowe coming to Netflix

When you hear Russell Crowe is starring in a biopic about Ted Kaczynski, the terrorist who came to be known as the Unabomber, you’d probably assume Crowe plays the lead as he looked toward the end of the federal manhunt that spanned two decades.  No such luck, but the split-era format movie, titled Unabomber and coming to Netflix next month, may have some promise for the crime thriller genre.  We’re always looking for the next successful crime thriller like David Fincher’s Zodiac, which featured the all-star cast including Jake Gyllenhaal, Robert Downey, Jr., and Mark Ruffalo, who returned to the genre in last year’s TV drama Task (reviewed here) From its first trailer Unabomber doesn’t appear to be all that nuanced, instead showcasing a college-aged Kaczynski played by Jacob Tremblay (Wonder) and Crowe as his college professor.  The movie is based on true events, but half the story tracks a fictional agent played by Shailene Woodley (Paradise) pursuing the search.  The casting and dual perspective may make this worth showing up for.
