It has been nearly a year since we first reported here at borg.com on images from Toy Fair 2016 of Funko’s prototype Playmobil figures, a result of a new partnership of the toy companies that allows Funko to produce licensed Playmobil figures never before released.  The figures will not be the traditional size that is playable with the thousands of Playmobil playsets released over the past four decades, but a larger, double-sized six-inch tall figure.

Although initial projections indicated these figures would be released last summer, finally online toy dealer Entertainment Earth is now taking pre-orders for the first series of these figures, which include characters from Back to the Future, Doctor Who, Ghostbusters, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.  You can also order a figure of Raphael from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, available exclusively through Entertainment Earth.

All have great sculpts and sport appropriate hats, scarves, sonic screwdrivers, proton packs, gauntlets, and other accessories.  Click on any of the images (above and after the cut) to learn more and pre-order your favorites from Entertainment Earth:

E.T. phone home.

It seems like such a long time ago, but also just yesterday.  1982.  As a ten-year-old kid, life was about waiting for next Star Wars movie.  But in between The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, we saw this incredible, powerhouse year of movies.  Movies like Tron, Blade Runner, Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, Rocky III, 48 Hrs., First Blood, Poltergeist, Conan the Barbarian, The Dark Crystal, The Thing, Night Shift, The Man from Snowy River, The Secret of NIMH, Tex, The Last Unicorn.  Then there were the re-issues in theaters that included Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back, Bambi, Raiders of the Lost Ark, and Peter Pan.  Somehow I managed to get to almost all of these in the theater that year.  What a year of movies to formulate your world view.

But then there was one movie that blew even these memorable films completely out of the water.  We saw cryptic trailers that didn’t quite give us the full picture of what we’d see, but the names of Steven Spielberg and John Williams were all we needed to hear to put our money down (actually my parents’) in faith that we were going to see something good.  And this awesome new Halloween candy called Reese’s Pieces were part of the marketing for the thing.  E.T., the Extra-Terrestrial, one of the all-time biggest box office successes and fourth most successful film of all time, doubling the returns from the next in line movie Tootsie that year.

I’ll be right here.

A heart-warming, exciting, fun combination of science fiction with the feel of a fantasy movie, all bundled in a coming of age movie.  Today–November 2–is the anniversary of the day Elliott and friends were finally successful in getting E.T., the first interplanetary botanist, the help he needed to take his spaceship back to his home full of what we could only imagine was a world of spectacular plant life.  Thirty-four years later Funko toy company’s ReAction Kenner-style retro action figure line is finally creating a set of 3 3/4-inch action figures in the same scale as all those other classic Star Wars figures and figures Funko has released in the past three years.  And you can order them now exclusively from Entertainment Earth.

But you better hurry because they will be a limited number release set.

Love Gun KISS album     Unmasked KISS LP

You Wanted the Best.  You Got the Best.

Rock and Roll Hall of Fame band KISS is known to everyone as one of the classic hard rock bands, but the band members are also unique as businessmen in their own right.  Probably second only to George Lucas the band created a marketing empire that no one has equaled.  In part due to their make-up and the fantasy world characters the real-life rockers created, the band’s financial success has never been better than today, and they are still rocking venues today more than 42 years after their first appearance.

Online superstore Entertainment Earth is offering limited, numbered quantities of a convention exclusive that was a big seller at San Diego Comic-Con last month–the KISS Alive II stage with action figures from toymaker Bif Bang Pow!  In the same vein as the retro-style, Kenner influenced action figures from the classic era of action figure toys, no KISS fan will want to miss out on this great playset.  It features adjustable rising stage platforms and a lit-up logo, plus a wireless speaker that allows you to literally rock-out the stage recreating one of KISS’s elaborate stage shows, plus it includes a page of fake tattoos like those that came with the band’s Alive II LP album.  The Starchild, Spaceman, Demon, and Catman figures are all included with instrument accessories.  Check out the Entertainment Earth website here to learn more and to order before the limited run is no longer available.

Jaws Funko packaging

After 40 years kids finally get to re-enact their favorite scenes from Jaws (like Chief Brody blowing up the Great White Shark with a scuba tank), and after 30 years they get to re-enact their favorite scenes from Flash Gordon (like Flash and Prince Barin sticking his hand in the wood stump to dodge the scorpion-like Wood Beast), all in the comfort of their own homes.

Insert the famous John Williams Jaws theme music alternating with Queen’s Flash Gordon soundtrack here.

Finally, after sneak peeks at this year’s Toy Fair at Funko’s new ReAction action figure line for the classic 1970s movie Jaws and the new Bif Bang Pow! action figure line for the classic 1980s movie Flash Gordon, we now have a look at their final products.  Both toy lines have been flying off the shelves for other properties in the classic 3 3/4 inch Kenner style retro action figure style, including everything from Buffy the Vampire Slayer, The Twilight Zone, and Firefly to the Universal Monsters, Karate Kid, The Fifth Element, and The Six Million Dollar Man and CW’s Arrow and Flash series.  (Check out past discussions here, here, and here at borg.com if you missed those).

Full close-up photos of the action figure sculpts and retro card packaging designs reveal some great looking collectible figures fans will be gobbling up fast, including the shark from Jaws himself (herself?).  Now if Funko would only give us a full playset of the boat Orca for even more fun.  Until then check out this great Todd McFarland Jaws recreation released earlier:

chrome T1000 ReAction Funko Terminator 2 Entertainment Earth exclusive   exclusive T1000 chrome bullets T1000 Entertainment Earth Terminator 2

Back in February we revealed here at borg.com the latest in Funko’s more than 20 licensed films and TV series in its 2015 ReAction action figure line first discussed at borg.com here and here, and now we have images of the carded figures and sculpts for many more new figures.  We also have links to allow readers to be among the first to pre-order them all from online collectibles store Entertainment Earth.  We’re still waiting for final images for Jaws, Gremlins, Scarface, and Fight Club, but we have pre-order information plus images and links to pre-order the new ReAction line for CW’s The Flash, The Karate Kid, Disney’s Tomorrowland, and the second wave of original series Star Trek figures We shared links for the first figures in the new Star Trek original series line last month here.

Better yet, you can now pre-order two new exclusive Funko ReAction figures, available only from Entertainment Earth.  Order the two exclusive liquid chrome “metallic” T1000 Terminator 2 figures (above, top) by clicking on the above images.

Word from Funko’s blog is that Phoebe Cates is not authorizing a likeness for the Gremlins line.  Here’s the prototype from Toy Fair 2015:

Gremlins prototypes Funko ReAction

This may mean both the Gremlins and Fast Times at Ridgemont High lines will be hindered by missing her key characters from these films.  Even though her figure looked nothing like the actress (as with most figures in the retro line) she apparently has some control of over not only her image but reproductions based on her characters.

Click on the images below to see full-sized images of figures and cards and to pre-order each from Entertainment Earth.
