Green Arrow, Batman, Wolverine artist to be featured in new book, The Art of Jock

Following its release of hardcover profiles of great comic book artists Alex Ross, Sean Phillips, and Howard Chaykin, Dynamite Comics announced this week the upcoming release of The Art of Jock, celebrating the work the British illustrator of works including Hellblazer: Pandemonium, Savage Wolverine, Green Arrow: Year One, and memorable Batman covers.  The Art of Jock will include hundreds of illustrations from his years as an artist for comic books, film, and marketing work.

“It will include drawings and paintings from all of my comics projects from over the last ten years, including many sketches and unseen material, plus concept art and extensive promotional images from the various movies and posters I’ve worked on,” Jock announced in press materials announcing the book release.  “The quality of the books I’ve seen from Dynamite has been second-to-none, so I’m thrilled to have a home there for this retrospective.”

Jock is known for his striking, sometimes sparse, usually edgy designs.  Jock has provided commercial art and graphic design for numerous internationally renowned clients including Pontiac, Sony, British Airways, Nintendo, Criterion, the NBA and the BBC.  He has worked for every major Hollywood studio producing key art, concept design, and promotional imagery for Batman Begins, Hancock, Children of Men, and Iron Man 3, as well as the big-screen adaptations of Dune, Dredd, and Battleship.

In comic books, Jock co-created the graphic novel series The Losers with Andy Diggle.  His covers for titles including X-Men, Daredevil, and Jason Aaron’s Scalped led to his being nominated as Eisner Award Best Cover Artist.  Jock and writer Scott Snyder recently won the Stan Lee Award for Best Series for their work on Batman: The Black Mirror.  His visuals on Green Arrow: Year One have been adapted almost verbatim into CW’s Arrow series island scenes.

He is currently producing screen prints for boutique poster company Mondo, and writing and drawing his first miniseries for Marvel Comics, Savage Wolverine.

The Art of Jock will be released in 2014.
