My Hero Academia–Draw 800 manga images with new guide book

Review by C.J. Bunce

Kōhei Horikoshi’s manga series My Hero Academia sees its 10th anniversary this summer.  Based in a world where superpowers–called “Quirks”–are normal, the series follows a boy named Izuku Midoriya, who doesn’t have a Quirk yet.  When he meets his favorite superhero, called All Might, All Might sees his potential and gives the boy his powers, then enrolls him in a Sky High-inspired superhero school.

Thanks to artist Mika Fujisawa, fans of the series can learn how to draw 800 characters and concepts in the new book, My Hero Academia The Official Illustration Guide, available now from VIZ Media here or here at Amazon.

Izuku Midoriya, Katsuki Bakugo, All For One, Tomura Shigaraki, Shoto Todoroki, Tenya Ida, and more come to life as Fujisawa provides simple instructions for drawing the characters, which aren’t all that complicated in the first place.

Fujikawa provides instruction and examples of putting characters together in a single scene, using different expressions, and adding key “props” from the stories.

He also includes graphics for fans to illustrate and provide logos for creating custom holiday cards, signs, or posters.  The style is a Japanese version of South Park, using large round faces with big eyes and heroic, funny, or mischievous expressions.

It’s a great book of fun for fans of the series, and any beginner looking for their first drawing guide.  Pick up a copy of My Hero Academia The Official Illustration Guide, available now from Elite Comics, from VIZ Media here, or get it here at Amazon.
