Fatal Attraction and Basic Instinct aside, multiple Academy Award-winner Michael Douglas always seems to deliver his performances with energy, surprises, and often humor, even in dramatic roles going back to Coma and The China Syndrome, continuing in Romancing the Stone and Wall Street, Falling Down and The American President, and it hasn’t stopped this century in his older years in the Ant-Man movie series and his TV series The Kominsky Method.  But Douglas as Ben Franklin?  That seems like perfect casting.

It’s all there in the first trailer for the coming Apple TV+ series Franklin, recounting Franklin’s eight-year attempt to secure France’s support against England during the Revolutionary War.  Check out this first trailer:

Ashes to Ashes and Rogue One’s Daniel Mays and The Cornetto Trilogy’s Eddie Marsan (as John Adams!) co-star in Franklin.  Look for the eight-episode mini-series to begin streaming on Apple TV+ April 12, 2024.
