The Acolyte–Lucasfilm ushers in Star Wars Day with new trailer

Happy Star Wars Day!  The second trailer for Disney and Lucasfilm’s coming series The Acolyte is better than the first, hinting at a different type of story with the same look of past movies and series.  The eight-episode series takes place a century before the familiar roster of main characters, but its young Jedi look like they are straight out of the prequel movies.  There’s a ring of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story as showrunner Leslye Headland incorporates mystery into some Asian wuxia influences we first saw in the mystic Chirrut Imwe and in several animated Star Wars Visions episodes.

Carrie Ann Moss brings her own flare from The Matrix and Jessica Jones to deliver a new Jedi.

We get a peek at Rebecca Henderson as Vernestra, a green Jedi.  Lee Jung-jae looks strong as the Jedi Sol, who seems to drive the story.

But most fun is familiar Logan and His Dark Materials star Dafne Keen center stage as a “Theelin/human hybrid” Padawan named Jecki Lon.  Sorry, no Joonas Suotamo this time–he returns to play a new Wookiee named Kelnacca.

Jodie Turner-Smith gets the best line–revealing a shift in Star Wars storytelling here.  Plus, another Zabrak like Darth Maul.

And in case you missed it, the first trailer…

Happy Star Wars Day–and Free Comic Book Day–and May the Force be with You!
