Joseph Gordon-Levitt goes bad in Greedy People

Joseph Gordon-Levitt is versatile.  He seemingly can fit into all kinds of roles, going back to when Hollywood first embraced him as an alien in the comedy 3rd Rock from the Sun.  But before that he was everywhere, from Family Ties to Murder, She Wrote, China Beach, Quantum Leap and Roseanne.  His genre movies include Halloween: H20, G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, Inception, and The Dark Knight Rises.  His next role is as a bumbling, bent cop in Greedy People, a screwball comedy of sorts that looks like something from the Coen Brothers, where his law enforcer is very different than the cops he played in The Dark Knight Rises and this summer’s big sequel flick, Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F.

Gordon-Levitt is joined by Lily James (Baby Driver, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies) and Himesh Patel (Station Eleven, The Aeronauts), the two stars of Yesterday, back together again.  Gordon-Levitt’s cop takes Patel on as a rookie in Providence, RI, showing him the ropes, and Patel ends up in a murder scene where the duo finds a bundle of money with the dead body.  A host of players in the middle of the mystery include Tim Blake Nelson (The Ballad of Buster Scruggs), Joey Lauren Adams (Dazed and Confused), Traci Lords (Marvel’s Blade), Jim Gaffigan (Peter Pan and Wendy), Uzo Aduba (Lightyear), and José María Yazpik (Madame Web).

The movie is directed by Potsy Poncirolli and written by Mike Vukadinovich, both newer filmmakers.

Look for Greedy People in theaters August 23, 2024.
