Apartment 7A–Okay, who asked for a Rosemary’s Baby prequel?

That’s right, apparently ’60s and ’70s shock horror is back.  The Exorcist seemed to have the monopoly for decades, and to a lesser extent we were peppered with remakes of The Stepford Wives and Westworld.  But somehow back in the 1970s Rosemary’s Baby turned from a one-hit-wonder to a horror franchise.  Did you ever hear of the 1976 sequel Whatever Happened to Rosemary’s Baby?  Neither did we.  Turns out John Krasinki and others behind A Quiet Place think we need another Rosemary’s Baby.  It’s streaming later this month.

Aiming for a Stanley Kubrick-esque vibe, the trailer to the Rosemary’s Baby prequel, Apartment 7A is here.  Check it out:

This looks a lot like Skeleton Key, Archive 81, and 1408.  It stars Julia Garner–the latest Garner actress not related to 1970s TV legend James Garner.  That’s Dianne Wiest as the creepy apartment manager–does that hair-cutting scene call back to her role in Edward Scissorhands for anyone else?  Maybe it will fill the void of new horror movies for the coming Halloween?  Apartment 7A streams on Paramount+ beginning September 27, 2024.
