“We got them from a public library, not a book bound in human flesh.”
Of course that’s a reference to the Necronomicon, the big bad prop from the Evil Dead movies, starring Bruce Campbell, who brings the street cred to his next horror series, Peacock’s Halloween release, Hysteria! Who doesn’t love another excuse to watch Bruce Campbell do his thing?

Back in the 1980s, remember when parents everywhere freaked out about KISS, when it was suggested Gene Simmons’ band’s name stood for “kids in Satan’s service”? Hysteria! is taking a big beat from that era: When a beloved varsity quarterback disappears during the “Satanic Panic” of the late 1980s, a struggling high school heavy metal band of outcasts realize they can capitalize on the town’s sudden interest in the occult by building a reputation as a Satanic metal band, until a bizarre series of murders, kidnappings, and reported “supernatural activity” triggers a leather-studded witch hunt that leads directly back to them.
Here’s the trailer for Peacock’s Hysteria!:
With Julie Bowen (Totally Killer), Garret Dillahunt (Law & Order), and Allison Scagliotti (Warehouse 13), eight episodes of Hysteria! begin on Peacock October 18, 2024.
