The Anxiety Club–An introduction to psychotherapy as graphic novel

Review by C.J. Bunce

A new graphic novel goes where no graphic novel has gone before.  Dr. Frédéric Fanget, a French psychotherapist and anxiety expert, psychology writer Catherine Meyer, and artist Pauline Aubry have created a self-help guide to begin to help readers identify, understand, and manage anxiety.  The Anxiety Club–How to Survive Modern Life, available now here at Amazon, is a book on the basics, an introduction to anxiety, how normal survival mechanisms everyone has built in sometime seem out of control, and how they can be managed.

The authors speak directly to the reader with Dr. Fanget as guide, explaining the basic types of anxiety disorders, and how they result from physiological, psychological, and behavioral mechanisms.  The positive message is that anxiety can’t be eliminated but it can be treated.

Using three fictional patients, the authors give examples of how therapies can help, and what those with more serious symptoms can expect if they seek help.  Managing uncertainty is key to better managing emotions, according to the writers.

Readers will learn about generalized anxiety disorders, panic disorder, agoraphobia, separation anxiety, social anxiety, PTSD, OCD, phobias, and more.  The artwork and examples are straightforward and ideal for introducing anyone to help if they need it.

The Anxiety Club–How to Survive Modern Life is available now here at Amazon, or add it to your pull list at Elite Comics or your local comic shop.
