The Unholy Trinity–Brosnan and Jackson star in next Western

Quentin Tarantino’s Western movies Django Unchained and The Hateful Eight seemed like he was trying too hard–they had too much action, too much violence, too much shock and awe. The same goes for modern Westerns like Bone Tomahawk. Most other 21st century maintstream Westerns have been drawn out, slow dramas. The exceptions are films like True Grit, The Magnificent Seven, and 3:10 to Yuma–all remakes of classic Westerns (the anthology “movie” The Ballad of Buster Scruggs was even better).

The next Western coming soon to a theater near you is The Unholy Trinity, from Australian director Richard Gray. With all the signs of a B-movie Western, that might not be a bad thing. Some of the most rewatchable Westerns of all time follow the well-established, good ol’ B-movie formulas. Putting aside some obvious historicity issues easily spotted in the trailer, it’s an excuse to watch Pierce Brosnan and Samuel L. Jackson do their thing. The cast also includes some other familiar faces, like Star Trek: Strange New Worlds’ Ethan Peck, the Scream series’ David Arquette, and Wings’ star Tim Daly. The film co-stars newer actor Brandon Lessard.
