Star Trek has published a variety of gift books over the years. We’ve discussed some of them here. But the franchise’s next book may be the most fun yet.

If you’re a Star Trek fan you probably always have someone trying to buy you something related to the series of movies. Gift books are small-sized, usually hardcover books, usually with a fun slant. And they might fit in an over-sized Christmas stocking.

Coming next month is illustrator Joey Spiotto’s Star Trek: Klingon Next Door–Off Duty the Warrior’s Way, an eighty page, 7 inch by 7 inch gift book that covers more bases than you might guess. Available for pre-order now here at Amazon, this is a guide for Klingons who need some help with their free time. It’s a parody of your first or second favorite Star Trek warrior villains. It’s a trove of fun for fans of Easter eggs (do all Klingons have cloven toes?). It’s a reflection of how much you may already be a Klingon. And it’s a snapshot of the world we live in right now. Maybe the best way to spend your free time is riding the coin-op kiddie ride outside your local gagh store?

Most of the book is about good fun we all do, like taking a nap with your cat. But on your off-duty hours you may also need to get caught up on chores. Like getting a haircut.

Or maybe you didn’t get enough sleep and your off-duty hours break into your work time, like when you participated in that completely not challenging exchange program with those weak Federation types on the starship Enterprise-D.
