Vicious — Halloween horror season kicks off with Dakota Fanning

Something you need, something you hate, something you love. Is it the curse of a bad genie or a nasty witch? Either way, get ready to squirm. The Fanning sisters have been busy this year, Elle, known for Maleficent, Mary Shelley, The Lost Room, and Super 8, stars in the coming Predator movie, and now Dakota is starring in the coming psychological horror thriller, Vicious. Dakota has been in her share of creepy roles, from Coraline to Twilight, to Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, to The Alienist and The Watchers. All of these were a 360-degree turn from her roles in War of the Worlds, Push, Please Stand By, Ocean’s 8, and The Equalizer 3.

For her next horror turn, Vicious brings with it all the hallmarks of being a spiritual successor to The Skeleton Key. Fanning here even resembles star Kate Hudson ifrom that voodoo horror classic. And don’t look now, but this movie’s creator, writer-director Bryan Bertino, has also resurrected that worst of all scary elements: the “creepy little girl,” a trope we continue to shudder away from.
