HBO Max has delivered its next look at Lanterns, its series apparently trying to replicate the success of Marvel Studios’ Logan, which depicted a cranky Old Man Wolverine. This time it’s Old Man Hal Jordan, schooling a younger John Stewart in the ways of intergalactic police work as one of the many Green Lanterns (yes, there are other colors, too). The ubiquitous Kyle Chandler plays Hal with Rebel Ridge’s Aaron Pierre as John. The best bit may be the supporting cast, which includes Garret Dillahunt and Kelly Macdonald, with Jason Ritter and Nathan Fillion.

Fans of Hal going back to Dennis O’Neil and Neal Adams’ original days of the characters have been waiting for someone to put these guys on the screen for literally decades. So how will it play out?

See what you think. Here’s your next look at DC’s Lanterns:
In case you missed it, here’s the earlier teaser…
As a crime drama, if we forget this is a comic book show, and forget the nostalgia, the actors–both who have turned in great performances before–can probably turn this into a good show.
Lanterns begins streaming August 17, 2026, on HBO Max.
