In her next film project genre star Mary Elizabeth Winstead is a socialite working her way up the economic ladder when a virus erupts in England. Is it really a virus that only affects the wealthy? Rich Flu. It’s not a great title. Perhaps a little too on point. A Spanish film by director Galder Gaztelu-Urrutia filmed in English, it’s the latest sci-fi parable akin to Jacques Lob, Benjamin Legrand, and Jean-Marc Rochette’s Snowpiercer–a French graphic novel that managed to find an international following that stretched to film and TV versions. This new movie looks far less layered, but similarly absurd. That said, Winstead completists may not to miss the star of Ahsoka, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, 10 Cloverfield Lane, Final Destination 3, and Sky High in any kind of sci-fi appearance. Loosely based on circumstances in o-stars Rafe Spall and Lorraine Bracco with a cameo by Timothy Spall. Here’s the trailer for Rich Flu:
Note the film has a scene of small animal violence that may keep you away. Initially offered in a limited theatrical release, Rich Flu is available on the video platform Fandango from Vertigo.
