Aside from the title font and the quick glimpses at cityscapes that could be described as Blade Runner in the light, the first trailer for Apple TV’s 2027 series Neuromancer doesn’t look all that much future forward.  Noted as an early influence on cyberpunk, the novel is all about cyberpunk of the future.  But the first trailer for the new series, not so much.  Johnny Mnemonic (also from Gibson), A Scanner Darkly, Strange Days, Escape from New York were 20th century cinematic visions that look more futuristic than the new trailer.  The trailer does look like a 1980s eye toward the future, which may be what the creators are going for.  Based on William Gibson’s 1984 novel, a Neuromancer series should be squaring off effects-wise with the likes of sci-fi novel adaptations such as Altered Carbon.  But this is only the first preview, so fans of the novel will probably want to wait and see.

The series stars Callum Turner, Briana Middleton, André De Shields, Marc Menchaca, Max Irons, and Peter Sarsgaard.  While you’re waiting, read the book, still readily available at bookshops and here at Amazon.  Check out this teaser trailer for Neuromancer:
