Yaga — Moss and Morissette usher in season of the witch

As we creep closer to October, more and more series and movies are surfacing to spark your Halloween spirit. Baba Yaga — whether you’ve heard of her from Grimm, Scooby Doo, Doctor Who, John Wick, or Ivan Bilibin’s artwork, or one of your parents told you tales from the Slavic tradition of a woman known to eat children who lived in a house propped up on chicken legs, you probably know something about the folkloric witchy woman. Maybe you’ve seen her and not known it–she’s the inspiration behind Yubaba in Spirited Away and she’s probably related to the witch in the woods in Hansel and Gretel.

Next month she’s the subject of the police procedural series Yaga, coming to AMC+ from production house Crave. As you watch the trailer for the series, note that the song in the background isn’t the version of Donovan’s “Season of the Witch” that you might think–and there are many. It’s Alanis Morissette in what must be the umpteenth cover of the song released only this week as a single.
