Barrens cosplay cover

Project-Nerd Publishing’s new series Barrens spread like wildfire last weekend at its debut at Kansas City’s Planet Comicon.  The regular first issue of the series is still available at the publisher’s website (and we hope they get it into your local comic book store soon) but the variant cosplay cover featuring series lead character Esme Ford has already sold out.  So order your copy of the regular edition here before it sells out, too.

We previewed Barrens here at borg.com last year.  The creative team of writer CW Cooke (Solitary) and Bryan Timmins (The Monster King) knocked the first chapter of the series out of the park.  If you liked the Mad Max series, Steve Niles and Kevin Mellon’s American Muscle, Tank Girl, The Postman, or A Boy and his Dog, you’ll want to get in at the beginning of the series.

Somewhere in post-apocalyptic America there’s a job needing carried out.  And when you have a job in the Barrens requiring some leverage you hire Esme Ford and her ragtag gang who probably has been working together too long.  Ford has a past she’s not sharing, and when she encounters another gang who is just a bit tougher, will they let her keep going on her mission?  And who hired her anyway?

Wil Wheaton standing room only crowd at Planet Comicon 2013

In addition to great creators from outside the Midwest, like legendary writer/artist Howard Chaykin, artist Bill Sienkiewicz, and of course, Stan “The Man” Lee, the great thing about returning to a Con year after year is running into all our friends who write, sketch, or paint incredible works for a living.  Planet Comicon 2016 is no different.

Area creators at Planet Comicon this weekend with national success included Jason Aaron, who will have his own lines of fans getting his Star Wars series autographed, as well as artist Freddie Williams II, drawing sketches for fans and signing copies of his Batman/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series, and Disney artist Bryan Fyffe, selling his hand-framed, incredibly vibrant and diverse collection of prints.  Bryan also has a Con exclusive–his variant cover edition of the latest Lady Death series.

Make sure you get a copy of Issue #1 of the awesome new series Barrens from writer C.W. Cooke and artist Bryan Timmins–the debut of the series is this weekend.

Cap and Black Panther

The final marketing push begins for Captain America: Civil War, with an onslaught of interviews and new promos released by Marvel Studios in the past two weeks not unlike the volley dished out last month by DC Entertainment to entice fans to see the opening weekend release of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

We’re hoping this sequel gets a better reaction from fans.

The release is under a month away.  We will finally see the Black Panther and a new Spider-Man, and even Ant-Man joining in with the Avengers team.

Have you chosen your side?  Who will win?  Who will survive?
