Tag Archive: Super Bowl commercials

In addition to the eagerly awaited first look at Solo: A Star Wars Story, today’s Super Bowl game included a look at Tom Cruise’s next go at the American version of the James Bond movies.  The sixth Mission: Impossible film, Mission: Impossible – Fallout, has Cruise returning as Ethan Hunt, along with regulars Simon Pegg, Ving Rhames, and Alec Baldwin, plus some surprises.

Also look for appearances by Henry Cavill and Angela Bassett.  As with the past entries in the series, that’s Cruise performing many of his own stunts.

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is playing a father with a prosthetic leg trying to save his family in Skyscraper, the next big action flick featuring the blockbuster star.  Johnson continues to pile up box office wins, most recently in Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle (reviewed here).

Have a look at new trailers for Mission: Impossible –  Fallout and Skyscraper:

Every year the Super Bowl means new movie trailers.  Surprisingly the most exciting of all the movie trailers that aired during Sunday’s 51st Super Bowl game may be the all-star cast assemblage in The Fate of the Furious, the eighth film in the Fast and the Furious series.  Vin Diesel, Charlize Theron, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Jason Statham, and many more make for a great cast, and the action scenes look very big indeed.

But we got plenty of new previews, too.  Two movies of the bunch are not big franchise sequels, one we have seen a trailer for previously, Ghost in the Shell, and the other is a Ryan Reynolds mainstream space flick called Life.  Co-starring Jake Gyllenhaal, it looks like several episodes of spaceship disaster episodes we’ve seen from decades of Doctor Who.  The next Passengers?  Hopefully not.

Of the sequels, we have previews for Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales (proving again you can’t beat using a Johnny Cash song for your trailer), Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2, Transformers (5): The Last Knight, and the next X-Men movie, Logan.

Check out all these movie trailers, after the break:

Baloo and Mowgli

In case you missed the Super Bowl this past Sunday and haven’t caught up on the movie trailers that aired, we’ve stacked 15 of them up here at borg.com for your viewing pleasure.  Plus we’ve added The Lobster–a darkly wacky looking film that we can’t quite categorize yet.  Is it science fiction?  Fantasy?  You be the judge.  It may just be on that short list of quirky British comedies that manage to work (or not).  Plus it has Rachael Weisz and Ben Whishaw so that’s something.

Let’s start with what looks like the best of the bunch, a live-action reboot of The Jungle Book:

The Secret Life of Pets

X-Men Apocalypse

Jason Bourne

Arnold Mobile Strike

Unless you’re watching the Super Bowl to actually see the game today, you can find all the commercials online today, freeing up your schedule to watch Animal Planet’s Puppy Bowl XII.  It’s hard to believe we’ve been watching this too-darned-cute puppy outing for twelve years now.  Catch it throughout the day today on Animal Planet.  Get more information, including how the event is helping animals, at the Animal Planet website here.

Many of the ads from today’s game have been released already, so take a peek at a handful of them below.

As with past years, commercials airing during the Super Bowl featuring dogs seem to be the winners, although Kevin Hart has a pretty funny entry in his Hyundai ad, and we could watch Arnold Schwarzenegger Mobile Strike ads all day long.  Snickers is doing their thing again, this time with Willem Dafoe, and look for Christopher Walken in a car ad.  Also come back later for expanded movie trailers from what is previewed below, including one from the fifth Jason Bourne movie.

In case you missed them, we’ve got some new movie trailers released Sunday during the Super Bowl: one from Transformers: Age of Extinction featuring Mark Wahlberg, two more from The Amazing Spider-man 2, two from Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and one from Muppets Most Wanted.  All hit theaters over the next few months.

First up, looking better than the last Transformers movie, check out Mark Wahlberg and the Dinobots in Transformers: Age of Extinction:

And Marvel Studios has released new footage for The Amazing Spider-man 2 in two spots Sunday:

Dwayne Johnson Milk Super Bowl

Although this year the Super Bowl didn’t seem to net any ads as awesome as this great Star Wars themed ad or Ferris Bueller ad from last year’s Super Bowl, we did get to see the movie studios try to find the best way to cram a two-hour movie into the time it takes to forget what show you’ve been watching.  All of the six previewed movies have already released full-length trailers.  So did the studios succeed in convincing you to see their newest release?  Did any ad get you to order advance tickets for any coming attractions?  Here are the movie trailer commercials straight from the 2013 Super Bowl.

First up, Universal Studios shelled out some big bucks for a full 60-second spot for the May 24, 2013 release of the sixth entry in the Fast & Furious franchise.  If none of the past versions of the road race series interested you then maybe a team-up of Dwayne Johnson and Vin Diesel will.

It all looks like… a lot of car chasing, but it doesn’t look like it is promising audiences to be anything else so we’re betting “what you see is what you get” with Fast & Furious 6.
