First look–Wahlberg and Washington face off in action flick “2 Guns”

2 Guns poster

It looks like a buddy cop movie, and has a ring of Mel Gibson and Danny Glover in the Lethal Weapon movies.  2 Guns features two of Hollywood’s best actors–Denzel Washington and Mark Wahlberg.  And the first trailer reveals some chemistry especially through the humor in the banter between the two.

Washington plays a DEA agent and Wahlberg plays a Naval Intelligence Officer.  Each are sent to investigate the other.  But who is behind this?  When the older DEA agent slips up the Naval Officer shoots and wounds the agent, sending them both after each other ultimately to realize they are merely pawns in a mob game.

Has Washington ever played a bad part?  He was great in The Mighty Quinn, Glory, Much Ado About Nothing, The Pelican Brief, Philadelphia, Crimson Tide, Fallen, The Manchurian Candidate, Inside Man, The Taking of Pelham 123, and Unstoppable.

Wahlberg’s movie choices may be even more varied, including dramatic and comedy work, but they are always made better through his acting, including the recurring dim-witted personality he steeps into some of his characters.  We loved him in Shooter, The Perfect Storm, The Italian Job, The Departed, The Happening, and the hilarious Ted.  We recently previewed another Wahlberg release in 2013, Pain & Gain.

2 Guns also sports an interesting supporting cast, with James Marsden (X-Men, Superman Returns, Enchanted), Bill Paxton (Aliens, Weird Science, Apollo 13, Twister, True Lies, The Terminator, Stripes), Fred Ward (The Right Stuff, Big Business, Leverage, In Plain Sight, Silkwood, Swing Shift, Fish Heads), and Edward James Olmos (Battlestar Galactica, Blade Runner, Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind).

2 Guns is scheduled for release in theaters August 2, 2013.
