Peabody here.  Time to crank up the WABAC machine.

Hey, Rocky, watch me pull a rabbit of of my hat!
Again?  That trick never works.
Nothing up my sleeve… Presto!!!

IDW Publishing announced this weekend that they will team with DreamWorks Classics and Bullwinkle Studios to bring Jay Ward’s classic squirrel and moose Rocky & Bullwinkle, the genius dog Mr. Peabody and his boy Sherman, Russian spies Boris & Natasha, and Canadian mountie Dudley Do-Right and possibly the rest of the Jay Ward arsenal to new comic book series.  IDW also said it will be reprinting these characters’ stories that have not been in print for years.

The comic book release is timed to prepare fans and new readers for the DreamWorks Animation animated big-screen release Mr. Peabody & Sherman.

It’s unlikely the Quisp kid or Cap’n Crunch, also created by the late animator Jay Ward, will be part of the new series (but if there is a way for someone to work them in, I bet the writers and artists of IDW will figure it out!).

Dreamworks animated Mr.-Peabody-And-Sherman

The 3D DreamWorks animated comedy film Mr. Peabody & Sherman will feature the voices of Mel Brooks, Ariel Winter, and Stephen Colbert, with Ty Burrell as the voice of Mr. Peabody.  Mr. Peabody & Sherman has a March 7, 2014, release date.

So be on the lookout for both a Rocky & Bullwinkle and a Mr. Peabody & Sherman comic book series by early 2014.
