This week Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures released what they call the final trailer for Pacific Rim. We thought we caught a glimpse of it on the MTV Independence Day Marathon of videos today, which, by the way, was the first time we’ve found something awesome on MTV to watch in years that actually tied together music and TV. Here’s what we saw:
So what we thought was a new trailer for Pacific Rim? Actually the Beastie Boys’ video for its 1998 Grammy winning Intergalactic, where people inside a giant robot manipulate it to defend their city from a giant monster from the sea. (We’ll call Intergalactic our borg.com Video Pick of the Week). We apparently weren’t the first to make this connection. Here’s something we found on YouTube that tied it all together for us:
So from now on we will refer to Pacific Rim instead as Guillermo del Toro’s remake of the Beastie Boys’ video Intergalactic, Pacific Rim, because we want to give credit where credit is due. Now that we have that settled, here’s the actual, final trailer for Pacific Rim:
