1984–Before that year the words Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles would have sounded like some kind of joke. Forty years since and everyone has their favorite incarnation of the characters. For us it’s James Tynion IV and Freddie Williams II’s Batman/ TMNT crossover series. What’s yours? For the brand’s 40th anniversary, IDW Publishing is introducing a year of new comic book series, and it’s all beginning right now. The TMNT Sourcebook is available at comic shops (and here at Amazon) now, with TMNT: The Last Ronin II–Re-Evolution coming March 6, available for pre-order now here. Then on March 20 look forward to TMNT: The Untold Destiny of the Foot Clan (available here), with a re-launch of the named series in July. And that’s just the beginning.
This past week IDW Editor-in-Chief Jamie S. Rich shared the details and several covers (see them below). “What we wanted to do over the course of this year was build out the line so that there is a Turtles book for everybody. If you’re a fan of cool art and high concepts, you will like Black, White, and Green, for instance. If you’re a superhero fan, Nightwatcher might scratch a particular itch for you. And Mutant Nation is our celebration of the long history IDW has with TMNT, giving our regular readers all the characters they have come to love over those first 150 issues and maintaining the continuity as we enter a brand new phase of Turtles storytelling.”
TMNT: Black, White, and Green – Begins May 8. Writers and artists include Declan Shalvey, Paulina Ganucheau, Javier Rodriguez, and Jock.
TMNT: Alpha – Oneshot issue arrives June 5. Story by Tom Waltz with art by Gavin Smith follows the aftermath of TMNT Issue #150, including an appearance by fifth Turtle Jennika.
TMNT/Usagi Yojimbo: Saturday Morning Adventures – Oneshot arrives June 12. Written by Erik Burnham with artist Jack Lawrence.
TMNT: Nightwatcher – Begins August. Ongoing series written by Juni Ba with artist Fero Pe.
TMNT: Mutant Nation – Begins September. Ongoing series by Tom Waltz and Sophie Campbell.
