Fallout–Apocalypse takes a bizarre turn in big video game adaptation

On the one hand, we have the curiously naive shelter dwellers led by actress Ella Purnell, kooky and wide-eyed in the same way as Sandra Bullock’s future cop in Demolition Man.  Then there’s Walton Goggins as some kind of 1950s throwback promoter who turns into a mash-up of the gunslinger from Westworld and Red Skull from Captain America.  Creatures from Little Shop of Horrors and robots from The Fifth Element.  Humor from Dr. Strangelove?  The unmistakable vibe of A Boy and His Dog meets Logan’s Run in the eagerly-awaited adaptation of the mega-hit video game franchise in Fallout, a new series coming to Prime Video.  Creepy?  Yep.  Disturbing?  Definitely–especially with that cringy, contrasting pop music from 250 years before the story is set.

It’s not based on any version of a game in the Fallout franchise, but more like a new story in the same world.  How will that land for fans of the games?  A lot is going on here, blending everything you know and have seen from dystopian visions of the future before–almost like a dystopian take on Ready Player One.

Check out the bleak, weird, wild world of Fallout the series in this first, big trailer:

And in case you missed it, check out the previously released teaser:

All that plus Kyle MacLachlan, Sarita Choudhury, Leslie Uggams, and Chris Parnell.  Look for all eight episodes of Fallout streaming on Prime Video April 11, 2024.
