The Last Stop in Yuma County–Jim Cummings and Sierra McCormick star in crime thriller

We sang the praises of Jim Cummings previously here at borg in our review of the atmospheric Orion Classics release The Wolf of Snow Hollow.  Cummings is an indie movie triple threat, a writer, director, and actor who has been making his mark in all three roles (oddly enough he isn’t listed for his acting credits on IMDb).  You may recognize Cummings as the brave Deputy Pete McCabe, who pursued Michael Myers in Halloween Kills, but he’s also a jack of all trades, making movies from the ground up as cinematographer and editor and even working on visual effects for Captain America: Winter Soldier.  In The Wolf of Snow Hollow he played Officer John Marshall, No. 2 in line to the sheriff in a small northern town in the vein of Resident Alien, Fargo, or Northern Exposure.  A great film and performance by Cummings, the film is notable as Robert Forster’s last film appearance.   Next month Cummings serves as executive producer and star of The Last Stop in Yuma County, a modern crime-thriller based in a desert town in the West.

From the first trailer a story of folks stranded at a diner at a desert rest stop with criminals seems just what you’d expect on the indie front from Cummings.  This project is written and directed by first-timer Francis Galluppi.  And better yet, it co-stars Sierra McCormick, star of the best science fiction movie of 2020, The Vast of Night.  But fair warning: This is one of those trailers that looks like it gives away too much.  Here’s the trailer for The Last Stop in Yuma County:

This one has many familiar faces.  The Last Stop in Yuma County co-stars Cummings and McCormick with Jocelin Donahue (Doctor Sleep, Furious 7), Richard Brake (The Mandalorian, Kingsman: The Secret Service), Nicholas Logan (Dark Winds, Samaritan), Falzon Love (Elf, Bulletproof 2), Michael Abbott, Jr. (Killers of the Flower Moon, Fear the Walking Dead), Gene Jones (The Hateful Eight, No Country for Old Men), Robin Bartlett (Shutter Island, Mad About You), Alexandra Essoe (The Haunting of Bly Manor, Doctor Sleep), and Sam Huntington (Superman Returns, Fanboys).

The Last Stop in Yuma County comes to theaters May 10, 2024, with streaming and digital release dates not confirmed yet.
