Every once in a while, the independent movie provides a more intriguing movie trailer than the big studios. See if you agree that is the case this week with a look at four coming attractions: Francis Ford Coppola’s Stanley Kubrick-esque sci-fi curiosity Megalopolis, the Mad Max prequel Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, the Dune prequel series Dune: Prophecy, and the “first Brazilian movie of its kind produced for Netflix” the sci-fi cyberpunk movie Bionic.

So let’s jump right in.
It’s difficult to get past Chris Hemsworth’s odd choice of a fake nose for Furiosa.
So which looks the most promising to you? The special effects cyborgs of Bionic look to be a cut above the normal direct-to-Netflix fare. It’s produced by Brazil’s Black Filmes studio.
Megalopolis begins in theaters this weekend. Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga comes to theaters this coming weekend, starting on May 24, 2024. Bionic arrives on Netflix May 29, 2024. Dune: Prophecy does not yet have a release date, but is expected to stream on Max in 2024.
