Sung Kang established himself as a major badass in the Fast & Furious movie series. The American actor from Georgia brings an extra dose of cool to every TV or movie project he’s a part of, although he was wasted in a minor supporting role in the Obi-Wan Kenobi series. If you haven’t seen him in the Fast & Furious movies, it’s time for a binge-watch of the series. After years in TV and film roles, it’s that series where his stardom took off. He’s since appeared in Bullet to the Head, the reboots of Hawaii Five-O and Magnum, PI, Whiskey Cavalier, and Code 8, among other genre roles.

In his next role, Kang plays the villain opposite Welsh actor Luke Evans, one of the Shaws in the Fast & the Furious franchise and one of the leads in The Hobbit trilogy, and acclaimed Taiwan actress Gwei Lun-Mei. The French action movie Weekend in Taipei is the return of Luc Besson to Taiwan after the release of the 2014 sci-fi movie Lucy (which starred Scarlett Johansson), filmed on location there. Besson co-wrote and produced this film with director George Huang. If all you know about Taipei is the famous Chinese acrobats, Besson’s last venture showcased the attractive, modern, urban landscape. As an action movie of The Transporter/Taken variety (both written by Besson) the first trailer for the movie looks sharp, easily of the quality of those movies.

Take a look at the trailer for Weekend in Taipei:
Weekend in Taipei is slated for release in the U.S. November 1, 2024, with earlier releases in France in August and Taiwan in September.
