How did it take 24 years to deliver a movie like this? It seems both obvious and kind of brilliant. In the coming winter theatrical release Y2K, writer, director, and actor Kyle Mooney revisits the nothing event that was the Y2K Bug, the over-hyped, much ballyhooed possible event that was supposed to mean doom and gloom for everyone and every computer when the clocks changed over from 123199 to 010100. Books, magazine articles, and endless newspaper articles pondered what might happen, but then… nothing happened, despite hundreds of millions of dollars spent by corporate management to avoid something or nothing.

In the first trailer for A24’s movie Y2K, Rachel Zegler (Shazam! Fury of the Gods) stars with Jaeden Martell (Midnight Special) and Julian Dennison (Deadpool 2) in a coming of age comedy-horror movie that looks like part Superbad and part Final Destination. It’s also billed as sci-fi.

Check out this trailer for Y2K:
Zegler has taken Hollywood by storm in only a few roles. Will this movie begin her career as the next scream queen?
Look for Y2K arriving in theaters December 6, 2024.
