This Christmas, That Christmas is coming to Netflix

“Last Christmas,” at least if you believe the Wham! song, is about a bad Christmas, but maybe it should have been “That” Christmas.  That would make sense in the context of the new Netflix Christmas movie, the very British That Christmas The “That” in the title is about that old conversation between people reflecting on one of those events in the past that wasn’t the best–an understatement–so much so that we don’t really speak of it anymore.

This movie looks quite nice actually, low on tension, low on angst, just a fun holiday movie.  It seems to belong on the video store rack next to The Flight Before Christmas, Klaus, and the superb modern classic Arthur Christmas.  From director Simon Otto (Love Death + Robots), it’s based on the books by BAFTA-winning, Oscar-nominated filmmaker Richard Curtis (Four Weddings and a Funeral, Love Actually)–check out the trailer for That Christmas:

We’re always ready for something new at the holidays.  Brian Cox voices Santa, plus look at this great cast of other voice actors: Bill Nighy, Jodie Whittaker, Fiona Shaw, Katherine Parkinson, and Rhys Darby.

Look for That Christmas this Christmas streaming on Netflix beginning December 4, 2024.
