Trailer Park–The “Netflix Martial Arts Blood and Guts” Edition

Gangland violence looks a lot different in the Asian action genre.  Sometimes you wonder if a movie exists simply to give the makeup and fake blood makers a job.  The best we’ve seen was writer-director Timo Tjahjanto’s 2018 blood and guts martial arts action masterpiece The Night Comes for Us (reviewed here), which delivered the kind of  satisfaction you’d get in the 1970s and 1980s from movies starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Chuck Norris, and Bruce Lee.

Netflix’s Asia and Korea divisions are always producing more content, and although these next two projects don’t look like they will be the quality in writing or choreography of The Night Comes for Us, they are ready to provide buckets of martial arts blood and action.  Check out the trailers below for the forthcoming movie Demon City and the series Mercy for None.

Here’s Netflix’s summary of Demon City:

Just as hit man Shuhei Sakata “the Immortal Hitman” is about to clean up his act for his family, the mysterious organization Kimen-gumi murders his wife and daughter, pinning the blame on him and sullying his name. After being shot in the head, he miraculously survives but falls into a coma. Twelve years later, the Kimen-gumi attacks him again, but his dormant killer instinct awakens, setting him on an epic course of revenge. However, what awaits him is a truth that threatens to completely alter his destiny.

It stars Toma Ikuta, Masahiro Higashide, Miou Tanaka, Ami Touma, Taro Suruga, Mai Kiryu, Naoto Takenaka, Takuma Otoo, Masanobu Takashima, and Matsuya Onoe and is based on the manga Oni Goroshi by Masamichi Kawabe.  Here’s the trailer:
